One 14-year-old boy was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later determined the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was not taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that message.

Official Conclusion

Lead investigator told the hearing he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of social media.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to discern his intent."
