Patriots Match Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five scores during the current campaign
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak since the Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory extends the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York bottom after falling to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to finish the New York's initial series
But the home team fought back in the second period as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the triumph
